Blizzard pummels Japan's northern and western regions
Cold air mass and a low-pressure system moved into the Sea of Japan coast, bringing heavy snow and strong winds on Thursday (January 7).
Footage from the early hours of Friday morning by @Maa_Wallet shows heavy snow on roads near New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido.
Further footage filmed on Thursday at around 7 pm by @masa_coffeelife shows a think blanket of snowfall on roads in the city of Namerikawa.
Japan's Meteorological Agency said that the winter storm will continue to affect areas across the country until Friday (January 8).
