AIUNAU is a sloth rescue and release centre, located in Caldas, Medellin, Colombia. In 2018, World Animal Protection funded the construction of four new enclosures to rehabilitate and release the sloths that are confiscated from the wildlife trade and also the ones that were used as pets. Chocoanita is a three toed female sloth from the Choco region of Colombia. She was brought to the sanctuary in July 2017, after a concerned citizen had rescued her. They had found her being held captive, and destined to be eaten. As she was already very independent, AIUNAU organised for her release in November 2017. The team carried her into the forest where they found a safe spot for her release.
