Europe's most active volcano Mount Etna on the Italian island of Sicily has spectacularly erupted this week sending huge plumes of smoke into the sky as well as molten lava.

Incredible high definition footage shot on February 16 from the town of Milo shows the epicentre of the crater spewing lava into the air as it glows in the darkness of night.

Only a little more than a day after the last spectacular paroxysmal eruptive episode of February 16 at the Southeast Crater of the Etna Volcano a new eruption took place, this event was characterized by high lava fountains up to 700 meters high , lava flows and a dense eruptive column laden with ash and lapilli.
The images in this video were taken near the town of Milo, on the north eastern side of Etna.
