Khanyisa is an orphaned albino elephant rescued in January 2020 from a poacher’s snare. She came to Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development (HERD) and went through three months of rehabilitation for the horrific wounds caused by the snare. Since then, Khanyisa has been integrated into to the Jabulani herd of rescued elephants and now spends her days out in the wild with them.

This unique herd of elephants accepts orphans that are not related by blood and accepts them as family. This is largely due to the herd's exceptional matriarch, Tokwe, who is seen in this video standing next to Khanyisa.
