This timelapse captures a sandstorm gradually engulfing the China World Trade Center in Beijing.

According to the Beijing Meteorological Observatory, the sandstorm reached the downtown area at noon, and the gusts of wind in the Haidian and Shijingshan districts reached almost 70 km/h.

The Central Meteorological Station issued a blue sandstorm warning on May 6 that Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei and other 13 regions will be affected by the sandstorm.

Chen Tao, the chief forecaster of the National Meteorological Center, said: "The strong wind weather this year is closely related to the activity of the Mongolian cyclone. This year, the cyclones in Mongolia are more frequent, which has an obvious impact on the northern areas of China."

The video was filmed on May 6 and provided by local media.
