A sandstorm engulfed Beijing again, plunging it into severe air pollution on April 11.

The Beijing Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow warning signal (the lowest level) for the sandstorm on the evening of April 10.

The official website of the Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Monitoring Centre reported that the primary pollutant in the air was inhalable particulate matter (PM10), with a concentration exceeding 1000 micrograms per cubic metre, resulting in severe pollution.

Due to the upstream sand and dust transportation, it is predicted that from 9:00 pm on April 10 to 5:00 pm on April 11, there will be significant sandstorm weather in Beijing, with most areas having visibility less than 1000 metres.

The observatory also issued a yellow warning (the third strongest level) for strong winds, forecasting the speed of winds to reach 55.3mph to 63.4mph.

The air quality index in Beijing has reached level 6 (severe pollution) for 13 consecutive hours, of which the air quality index value is more than 300.
