Weighing in over 228,000 tonnes, 400 metres long and 61 metres wide, and needing over 15 metres deep water to keep afloat, the massive MSC Apolline is the latest brand new container ship to arrive in the UK, fresh from her last port call of Colombo, and her passage through the Suez Canal. She can carry up to 23,656 TEU of containers.
She arrived at the UK port of Felixstowe on the morning of Sunday, 23rd May 2021. and will probably stay until the evening of Wednesday 26 May, when she will sail to her other Northern European ports before heading back to the Far East.
Ships like MSC Apolline spend their whole 20+year lives travelling what is called a rotation - making 5 or 6 calls in the Far East, then coming to Northern Europe for 5 or 6 calls more, before heading back East. Each rotation takes around 2 months.
