Police officer FIRED after 'embarrassing' ‘DRAG RACING’ on residential street caught on camera – as he CRASHED into a PATROL CAR
A police officer has now been fired after getting caught on camera allegedly drag racing on a narrow residential road in Washington, D.C., US.
The on-duty officer was allegedly driving at speed down a residential street on 22 April after four officers allegedly challenged each other to a drag race.
The speed limit on the road was 25mph, but the patrol cars are believed to have reached 60mph.
The footage shows two officers parked on a two-lane street in northeast Washington, D.C., before speeding off down the road.
One cruiser, also with two officers inside, pulls up along the passenger side of the squad car and swerves into it, causing both vehicles to crash.
Footage from inside one of the cars shows the airbags deploying and the windshield cracking from the impact.
The car stops and a shaky officer exits the vehicle.
One person asks the officer if he is OK, to which he responds “Yeah, I’m good”.
The crash left two police vehicles wrecked and all four officers involved suffered minor injuries and were treated at a hospital.
Acting Chief of Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police, Robert Contee, confirmed in a press conference on Monday (3 May) that a probationary officer had been terminated following the incident.
He called the incident “embarrassing” and “unacceptable”.
The three other officers could also face charges and termination following the incident.
