This video shows the hair-raising moment a professional skydiver's quick thinking saved his life during a parachute malfunction.

David Hemphill was enjoying a wing suit session at a skydiving centre in Cedar Town, Georgia, USA, when the lines attached to his canopy became twisted.

He immediately employs a procedure designed for undoing line twists and was able to untangle them and save himself from any injury.

David, 52, from Georgia, said: "This was just a solo fun jump, flying my wingsuit.

"Wingsuits demand that you pay particular attention when you deploy the parachute.

“I dangled a foot just before the canopy was fully flying and this led to line twists.

“I was happy that the canopy was level over my head. Any asymmetry in the lines would cause the canopy to dive and sling me about violently. That's when you pull the cutaway handle.

“There are two commonly taught procedures for undoing line twists. This is a more recent one.”
