South West Londoners rejoiced, partially, as Hammersmith Bridge finally re-opened, to cyclists and pedestrians at least, on Saturday 17 July.

The bridge has been completely closed for 11 months and closed to motor vehicles -- which remain banned -- for 18 months.

The 134-year-old bridge was closed when cracks in its structure got bigger during a spell of hot weather.

Engineers have now given their approval to its partial re-opening.

News reports say 4,000 cyclists and 12,000 pedestrians used it on a daily basis before it was closed.

Video was shot as the north side of the bridge was re-opened.
