A man rescued a scooter rider being swept away by rapid floodwater in central China.

The video, filmed in the city of Zhengzhou in Henan Province on July 20, shows a scooter rider holding a rope as others tried to pull her out of the deep floodwater.

However, the rapid water separated the woman from the rope forcing her to grab hold of the door handles on a car. After a few moments, she lost her grip and was swept down the road by the flood.

A man was seen jumping into the deep floodwater to grab the scooter rider and bring her back to safety.

According to reports, the heaviest rainstorm on record hit the city causing flash floods. Twelve people were killed and five were injured.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
