A group of nearby residents rescued motorists trapped in a car that was submerged by deep floodwater in central China.

The heroic video, filmed in the city of Zhengzhou in Henan Province on July 20, shows several men swimming towards a car almost completely submerged by floodwater.

They then used a knife and a hammer to try to smash the car windows open.

After the car window was opened, a man carried a boy and a girl out and placed them onto the top of the vehicle.

The two children were then transported to safety in a blue bucket one by one.

The two children's grandmother was then saved as well and swam back to safety with the help of two men.

According to reports, the grandmother picked up a 7-year-old and a 4-year-old from the kindergarten and drove them back home. However, the car broke down in the flooded road and the doors or windows could not be opened.

The grandmother then called her daughter for help as no one could see her trapped in the car. Her daughter then called a nearby shop and also posted on social media to ask nearby people for help.

The grandmother and two grandchildren were saved successfully and none of them were injured seriously.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
