Get to know more about the silkworms, the insect behind the production of silk
Colleen and Arkadiy are from San Francisco, California. They got an opportunity to visit Shanghai to learn more about Qipao.
To understand silk, the material for making Qipao, Colleen and Arkadiy went to Hangzhou and visited Dujinsheng Silk Museum. Dujinsheng Silk was founded in 1922. The founder Du Jinsheng was a patriotic entrepreneur and pioneer. He was the first person to manufacture embroidered silk.
In the museu, there is a row of small glass bottles, from which one can understand the growth of silkworm and how the raw silk is produced. The first bottle shows the egg of silkworm moth, the second shows silkworms hatched form eggs. They gradually grow big and build their cocoons. These cocoons are the source of raw silk.
