This is the moment two stray puppies were rescued after sheltering under concrete pillars during a rainstorm.

The hapless pooches crawled under the items that were tied together at a construction site in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand.

However, the duo could not find their way out and started to cry as they struggled to emerge out of the concrete maze.

The dogs were only heard by concerned locals three days later and called the animal rescuers for help who rushed to the scene in September 10.

A volunteer from the Buddhadhamma Hook Foundation rescue team said: ‘The dogs were trying to hide from the strong rain during the storm but they could not come out after.

‘One of the villagers who called us said that the dogs have been crying for three days but they didn’t know where they were stuck until they found them here.’

The rescue team used a rope to lure the animals out while the residents helped in trying to reach the dogs inside. After an hour, the dogs were finally lured out by the team before they were given a health check.

The pooches – one male and one female – were generally healthy aside from being dehydrated so they were given food.

A villager then volunteered to adopt them and named one of the ‘Boonchook’ which meant ‘lucky’ in the local language.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.
