Trapped residents were rescued using a zip-line after a river overflowed due to severe tropical storm Kompasu in the Philippines.

Footage shows the families – including children – being pulled across the river using a rope while wearing a safety harness in Palawan province on October 11.

Flash floods gushed through the river and broke the banks before submerging homes and roads in a nearby village. No one was reported hurt in the incident and the families were taken to evacuation centres.

Kompasu, locally known as Maring, is expected to exit the Philippines on Tuesday (October 13) morning and will head to China’s Hainan province where it is set to make landfall.

It is the second cyclone to hit the country this October leaving at least nine dead and 11 others missing due to flash floods while forcing the evacuations of thousands in the Luzon island.
