Flash floods have battered Batu City in Indonesia, leaving a trail of destruction in the town.

The footage filmed on Thursday (November 4) shows the aftermath of the dramatic floods that washed away cars and damaged buildings in the city on Java island.

Rescue workers are clearing away mud, debris and are trying to stabilize houses that have been badly damaged by the water.

Flash floods were reported in Sumber Brantas Village and Bulukerto Village, Bumiaji Subdistrict, Batu City on Thursday (4/11) due to heavy rains that flushed the area in the afternoon.

Based on a report submitted by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Batu City, East Java, water carrying mud material, along with large diameter wood, blocked road access in the village.

"There was a flood disaster in Sumber Brantas Village RT2/2. We will provide further information after receiving reports from the team in the field," said a quote from the Disaster Management Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) of the Batu City BPBD.

The Batu City BPBD is currently deploying a team to locations affected by the flood disaster. Officers will carry out mitigation efforts and provide assistance to residents of Batu City affected by the flood.

Currently, a number of affected villagers are also trying to get rid of wooden materials that were dragged by the flood in front of residential areas, and on flood-affected roads.
