An excavator was used to dig six elephants out of a muddy bog in Lakhipur, Assam.

Footage from December 3 shows a rescue team using the machine to make a slope for the elephants to escape the pool.

According to locals, this is the second time elephants have fallen into the pond in two days.

Out for a midnight stroll, a herd of six elephants slipped inside a pond in northeastern India's Assam on December 3. The incident took place in Lakhipur, located in the Goalpara district.

Visuals feature the herd struggling to stay afloat inside the pond. They swim on the surface of the muddy water, attempting to mount the slope adjacent to the pond. Meanwhile, a crowd of curious onlookers gathers at a safe distance. Later, the forest officials reach the spot, equipped with an earthmover, and swing into action. They dig out a section of the land, giving a safe passage for the pachyderms' evacuation.

Six wild elephants slipped inside the pond on Thursday night, following which they had a lucky escape the following morning. The panic-stricken locals alerted the forest officials, who arrived at the spot and successfully rescued all six elephants. Moreover, this is the second incident of elephants falling into the pond in two days.
