This is the dramatic moment a security guard stopped an armed bank robber – who then died after being wrestled to the ground by onlookers.

Clerk Yuttana Guedsang was servicing a customer when the intruder stormed the branch and waved a knife at her in Pathum Thani province, Thailand on December 2.

Shocked Yuttana and her friend fled to the cleaner’s room as the robber threatened the other staff with a knife and took money from the counter.

However, the store’s security guard showed up and attempted to stop the robbery before the man escaped.

CCTV footage shows the guard wrestling with the helmet-wearing robber with a chair. The pair fought inside the branch and continued outside the mall where the robber parked his motorcycle.

Video recorded by a passerby shows how locals pounced on the suspected robber and pinned him to the ground.

Police later arrived at the scene and found the lifeless body of robber Piyapong Amaon, 28 lying face down and with handcuffs on his wrists and a stab wound. The security guard, Khuntong Srichaiya, had a stab wound on his chest.

The security guard was given first aid and taken to hospital for treatment where he is now recovering. The robber was taken to hospital and pronounced dead.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Sirote Naannion said: ‘We found blood trails starting from the branch. Next to the robber’s body, we found a 20cm-long knife.

‘We are currently finding more details about the robber and how the incident happened. We had already kept the CCTV footage as evidence.

‘Officers are also interviewing the people who detained the robber outside to find out how he died. He had a stab wound so we believe he was injured during the struggle with the guard.’
