Quick-thinking children from the Russian city of Asha saved the life of a stray dog recently that was floating away on river ice.

The canine ran onto the ice in April last year but then when it started to shift was unable to find a route back to the bank.

A group of children noticed the dog's predicament and ran downstream to a bend where they correctly predicted the ice floe would wash ashore.

They then lured the terrified pooch to the side of the river with food and hauled the stray to safety by its collar.

Footage showed the dog thank its rescuers with a friendly wag of the tail.

The incident happened in the city of Asha, Chelyabinsk region. A homeless dog ran out onto the ice and fell into a trap, apparently he was very frightened by what was happening and did not know what to do. The block moved and began to rapidly carry the dog downstream.

The dog could swim down and die. But what was happening was noticed by schoolchildren walking along the embankment, they were not at a loss, they waited for the moment when the ice floe was washed ashore and lured the dog to them, then carefully pulled it by its paws to the top. The dog thanked his rescuers by waving his tail and fawning over them.
