Ferry berth left empty in Kent, UK after DFDS suspends new service after problems at French port

DFDS has suspended their new unaccompanied freight ferry running between Sheeerness, UK and Calais, France due to 'operational difficulties', until further notice.

It's unclear if or when the service - which only started in June 2021 using ship Maxine - will return.

The new route got off to a bad start when dock workers in Calais almost prevented the ship from departing on its maiden voyage back in June 2021, which was only resolved at the last minute by talks held by DFDS to address the French worker's issues.

Footage from today (January 29) shows the empty ferry berth at the Port of Sheerness in Kent, UK - which had been bought back into use for the service - plus a large yellow mooring buoy put in place specifically for Maxine. This is followed by file footage Maxine's last sailing from Sheerness on January 14.
