A family that took a day trip on a boat while they were on holiday were rescued after the vessel capsized in Indonesia.

The stranded tourists - including several children - were found floating off the coast of Merak Belantung town in Indonesia's South Lampung Regency on April 2. They were holding onto an overturned canoe while awaiting rescue.

Local media said the boat was 'hit by an accident' that caused it to capsize. There were no casualties as help reportedly came soon after.

Denny Mezu, head of the Bakauheni Search and Rescue team, said: 'It's not clear what the chronology is. The info we received said they are all family and they just wanted to play around on a boat around the area when the boat tilted and capsized.

'There were no fatalities thanks to everyone involved. They were saved right away because the location of the incident is not far from the Merak Belantung pier.'
