An elderly woman was found clinging onto a palm tree for her life after being swept away by flash floods.

The 60-year-old pensioner was trying to wade through the water after heavy rain from a tropical storm lased her village Nakhon Si Thammarat province, Thailand on April 5.

She somehow managed to grab hold of a tree to avoid being dragged away to her death in the muddy water.

Neighbours attempted to rescue the woman but were not able to due to the water force. Worried for the woman’s safety, the officers moved through the water and gave her a life jacket to ensure she stayed afloat.

Search and rescue officers who were on duty evacuating residents were called over to help. They managed to carry the woman to safety.

Rescue volunteer Kiattipong Penkeaw said: ‘She needed our help at that moment. We risked our lives swimming through the deadly floods but it was worth it.’
