Villagers battled to hold up a tent as a storm tore through northeastern Thailand.

The locals were preparing to hold a religious event in Nakhon Ratchasima province when the storm swept through the venue on July 12.

Due to the strength of the gusts, the organisers had to anchor the tent using their own weight.

Footage shows a pair of locals dangling from its poles as they struggled to keep it in place. Other villagers were seen also clinging onto its legs as powerful winds continued to whip through the area.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, and the Philippines are at the start of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until late November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods which cause rivers to flow faster and become dangerous.
