A woman went for an impromptu swim as a flash flood swept through her village in Thailand.

The resident used the deluge as a makeshift swimming pool, plunging into the surging waters that inundated Langu village in Satun province on September 2.

Video shows the energetic local freestyle swimming across the strong currents. She dragged herself out of the flood - only to plunge again for another lap.

Locals said a nearby canal surrounding the village had overflowed following several days of heavy rain. The water swelled and rushed into the community.

Super Typhoon Saola had no direct effect on Thailand, but intensified the prevailing monsoon.

The Thai Meteorological Department forecasted heavy rain to fall in 44 Thai provinces, including Bangkok.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are approaching their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
