The demand for ketupat, an Indonesian rice cake, has soared as locals take part in Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

Novri, a worker, makes these savoury treats for a living from his home in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, and claims demand has increased 600 percent ahead of Eid.

"Orders for ketupat this year are more than in the previous two years. During COVID-19, orders decreased dramatically. Alhamdulillah there are now no restrictions for immigrants who return home so that people can rejoice in welcoming Eid," Novri added.

Ketupat is a typical food served during Eid in Indonesia. Ketupat is eaten with various side dishes and other side dishes such as satay, vegetable rice cake, potato fried chili sauce, meat, and so on.

The rice is wrapped in rectangular woven coconut leaves and then boiled for five hours.
