A cold lava flood from an active volcano swept through a settlement in Indonesia, killing local residents.

Footage filmed in Simpang Bukik, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province, on Saturday (May 11) showed a torrent of cold lava flood overflowing onto the road. The flood swept away a car with passengers inside.

Subdistrict Head of Sungai Puar, Susi Karmila, said that as of early Sunday morning, the cold lava flood had damaged four houses and killed four people.

Dozens of survivors with injuries were evacuated to hospitals, while dozens of other residents are still missing and being searched for by officers.

The cold lava flood occurred while Mount Marapi was actively erupting. Heavy rains from Saturday afternoon to night triggered the cold lava flood that hit the settlements around the foot of Mount Marapi.
