A cattle truck fell into a ravine beside an Indonesian road, resulting in the death of two cows and the rescue of nine others.

Footage filmed on the Bukittinggi-Padang road via Sungai Buluah, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province on Sunday (28/4/2024) depicts the efforts to evacuate the truck from the approximately 10-foot ravine and the condition of the driver and cows following the incident.

Satria (32), the truck driver, stated that the truck with license plate number BK 8042 TW that he was driving from Medan was transporting 11 cows to Padang City. Upon reaching the scene, on an uphill road, he brought the truck to a halt on the left side of the road. He then exited the vehicle and crossed the road to retrieve a phone charger from his friend's truck, which had stopped in the opposite direction across the road.

Upon Satria's return to the truck, it suddenly rolled back, crossed to the right side of the road, and plunged into the ravine.

"I had set the handbrake and chocked the wheels. I think it rocking due to the passage of large trucks and the cows' inability to remain still," Satria added.

As a consequence of the incident, two cows died on the spot, while the remaining nine cows had wandered into a rice field near the ravine but were rescued and transported to their destination.

Meanwhile, the truck's assistant, who was sleeping behind the driver's seat at the time of the incident, also survived. However, he was shocked to wake up to the truck upside down with all six wheels facing upwards.

Police officers from the Bukittinggi Police Traffic Accident Unit were dispatched to the scene to assist and investigate.
Following the evacuation of the truck from the ravine, it was transported back to Medan. The two cows that had died were buried at the scene with the permission of the landowner.
