Groups of fish were seen being killed in a brutal way as lockdown rules in Shanghai prevent live goods from being delivered to quarantining residents.

Video filmed on May 9 shows a man in protective clothing killing live fish by throwing them onto the ground.

According to a worker from Yangcheng Neighbourhood Committee in Jiang'an District, the live fish were bought by a group of residents whose community was in lockdown.

As buying live fish was not permitted by the neighbourhood authorities, the residents had reported they were buying frozen fish.

When the authorities found out, they demanded that the live fish were to be killed before being delivered.

A resident said to Zhejiang Television Station that their residential community was still in lockdown and any live products were not allowed to be purchased based on the pandemic rules.

However, some residents who were quarantined for a long time wanted to get some fresh live fish to improve the quality of their meals, so they came up with the idea.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
