A barrier of bikes has been set up on a road in Shanghai to limit the number of residents outside.

Footage from May 19 shows dozens of bikes stacked up on barriers creating a border between Changning District and Xuhui District.

According to officials, some residents are allowed to pass through the barrier with a special pass. They can only use it two times every five days with only one pass per household.

Some Shanghai residents can now use a special gate pass to leave their compounds with a special gate pass, but the freedom comes with a lot of restrictions: you may only use it two times every 5 days, only one person per household, 3 hours at a time and you must be back before 6 PM. Another example of the restrictions are the barriers constructed around the cities to section off sub-districts and districts, for example, this bike barrier was quickly placed on the border between Changning District and Xuhui Distrct.

Many are outside and seeing others for the first time in two months and are handling it differently. Some wait in line to get their QR codes scanned to buy from convenience store, some meet friends on the street, some get delivery from across the barrier and some ignore the barrier entirely and climb over it. Security guards and police dressed in white enforce rules at varying levels of attention to detail.
