A section of a road suddenly cracked due to high temperatures in central China.

Video filmed in the city of Zhoukou in Henan Province on June 17 shows a section of a tarmac road suddenly cracking with smoke coming out.

A witness named Ms Shan told Henan TV that she heard a loud noise at around 4 pm at home and went out to check. She then saw the cracked road.

Since the temperature was high, no one was outside. So no one was injured.

The local meteorological observatory issued a red warning signal (the highest level) to the high temperature, which means the highest temperature would rise above 40 degrees Celsius within 24 hours.

Ms Shan reported the incident to local authorities and then an excavator was used to repair the road.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
