A military airstrike killed two and left a smouldering aftermath in Myanmar.

Eerie footage shows smoke billowing from burned down houses in western Chin state's Mindat town on July 2. The airstrike left two people killed and dozens injured.

The video of the ruins was reportedly taken two days after the airstrike engulfed the village in an inferno.

Anti-regime group Mindat People's Administration Team's spokesperson Yaw Man said: ‘There were no fighting or attacks before the airstrike. They came with two fighter jets and dropped bombs near schools and churches. These places should have been a sanctuary for the people.'

Mindat, a small town in the remote and mountainous region of Chin was reportedly one of the early targets of military for having strong anti-coup sentiments.

Myanmar, or Burma, has been ravaged by protests, violent crackdowns and rebel uprisings following the ousting of democratically elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi in a military coup in February 2021. Nobel Peace Prize Laurette Aung San Suu Kyi was kidnapped and has been held in custody on 'politically motivated' charges.
