A baby elephant was rescued after his were stuck in thick roadside mud.

The juvenile jumbo named Suphansa was looking for food in a sugarcane field when he stepped on the sludge in Surin province, Thailand on June 10.

He tried to escape from the slippery quagmire but the heavy animals limbs sunk deeper into the sticky mud instead until his caretaker discovered him.

Footage shows Suphansa pulling his limbs out of the sludge with the help of a kind woman.

Suphansa's caretaker said: 'This jumbo loved to play in the mud so much but that sludge was too deep for him.'

The jumbo was not hurt and returned to the animal camp after the incident.

Thailand has about 3,800 elephants that live in captivity in camps, zoos, and sanctuaries. Some animal camps rent their jumbos as an attraction to tourists but the practice greatly declined with the imposition of travel restrictions due to the pandemic.
