A cargo plane skidded across an airport during an emergency landing after malfunctioning mid-flight in the Philippines.

The Beechcraft Baron ATR BE58 took off from Sangley Airport in Cavite province to fetch fish from Cuyo Islands in Palawan but had a technical issue along the way on July 10.

Due to hydraulic issues with the landing gear, Captain Jesse Bihasa with co-pilot James Pala were forced to return to Sangley.

Footage shows the aircraft touching down on a bumpy landing before skidding across the grassy part next to the runway.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) spokesperson Eric Apolonio said: ‘Our aircraft accident investigation board will summon the crew members for a formal investigation.'

Ambulance and fire trucks were on standby during the landing but the plane landed safely.

CAAP's Aircraft Accident and Inquiry Board are handling the investigation.
