Powerboat Thunder Child II was filmed attempting to set a new speed record from London to Monaco this morning (July 27).

The highly advanced craft built by SafeHaven Marine is capable of a top speed of 54 knots (62mph) and already holds multiple world records.

The vessel left London's Tower Bridge at 7.30am and was seen passing Sheerness, Kent early this morning. The team will briefly stop in Brest, France, La Coruna, Cadiz, and Pas Palmas in Spain on their way to Monaco, attempting to set a new UIM world record.

A personal letter from the Lord Mayor of London addressed to HRH Prince Albert of Monaco is also being carried onboard.

In addition, the team hope to raise funds for charity as part of the 3-day and 2,200 nautical mile challenge.
