An elephant calf which had lost its way, and its mother, was rescued by workers at a tea estate in India on 31 July.

The baby jumbo was then handed to the forest department by the kindly locals.

The animal was found in the Bakial tea estate in Golaghat in Assam, who discovered that the calf was slightly injured.

The locals then handed over it to the forest workers of the Bakial Zonal Forest Office, who handed it on to the Kaziranga Wildlife Conservation and Rehabilitation Centre.

According to forest department officials, the calf was also found roaming with its mother in the Bakial tea estate several days before.

At that time, the calf was trapped in a tea plantation canal for a long time before the forest department rescued him from the canal and handed him over to his mother. But again the elephant calf is separated from its mother.
