Motorcycle riders became stuck when they tried to power their way through a flooded road after heavy rain in the Philippines.

Footage shows the motorists struggling through the deluge in Marikina City area of the Manila national capital region on August 13.

State weather agency PAGASA said the Habagat or southwest monsoon is still prevailing over the country, bringing rain showers and thunderstorms that can cause flash floods and landslides.

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
