This is the moment an injured python stuck under a family's roof was rescued in Thailand.

The 17ft-long serpent slithered across the wooden beams of a property's roof but its scales were caught in the poking nails in Songkhram province on July 21.

It was spotted fighting to wriggle free from the structure until the nail punctured the scales on its body causing a wound.

Shocked resident Funplaeng Mang called his neighbours for help and began rescuing the serpent.

Homeowner Funplaeng said: ‘I was going to clean the yard when I saw it dangling on the beam. I didn't know what to do. It looked stuck, so I called my neighbours.'

Animal rescuers also arrived and they were able to free the snake from the beam together.

The creature was taken to a wildlife facility for rehabilitation as it sustained wounds from being stuck on the roof. It would be released after recovering.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
