A large Burmese python was caught hiding in a couple's ceiling in the Philippines.

The 9ft-long serpent was heard rustling on the metal roof as a couple was about to sleep in their home in Quezon City on December 12.

Husband Oton Ortiguerra checked the source of the sound and was shocked to find the snake so he called for help.

Footage shows Oton and some village officials dragging the snake out of the narrow space.

Oton said: ‘We were about to sleep but my wife heard some sounds on the ceiling. We first thought it was only a big rat but still I went to check.

‘We were so shocked that it was a big snake. I could not pull it out on my own so I called some people for help.'

No one was hurt in the incident but Oton said the snake was strong and resisted them.

He said: ‘We could not pull it out. It tried to escape us many times.'

After about half an hour, the snake was removed from the ceiling. It was taken by the officials to their office and picked up by wildlife office staff in the morning.
