This video footage, posted on 26 July 2022 by the exiled Mariupol City Council’s Telegram account, claims to show the difficult living conditions inside the Russian occupied city in South Eastern Ukraine. It shows how residents who were unable to evacuate the city, which suffered a devastating siege following Russia’s February invasion, have had to make makeshift outside showers and cooking apparatus outdoors, due to the damage to homes and utilities. An angry caption reads, “People have to wash right in the yard. Perhaps the majority of Russians are used to such conditions, but the people of Mariupol lived in civilization before their arrival. Now the occupiers are spreading the barbaric Russian standard of living to our city.” Russian troops have occupied the entire city since 16 May 2022, when the last remaining Ukrainian defenders left their redoubt in the city’s Azovstal steelworks.
