This is the moment a female silverback gorilla apparently displays dominance by beating her chest and flexing her gigantic muscles.

The great ape, named Shana, was captured on video by animal-lover Jonathan Case in what could have been a warning to keep back.

In a second video, Shana can be seen strutting around Dallas Zoo in Texas, USA, showing off her senior status.

According to an extensive study about the reasoning behind the very often seen chest beating among all gorillas, published in the peer-reviewed journal Scientific Reports in April of last year, they often seem to it as a way to communicate their proximity and their size to other gorillas, either to challenge them or to warn them.
