Footage shows how dozens of pet dogs were rescued from severe floods in Porto Alegre in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, on Friday, May 3.

The animals were saved by rescue teams battling through the country's worst floods in more than 80 years.

Officials said that teams mobilised a truck to transport the rescued dogs to a shelter in the Restinga neighborhood.

Efforts to rescue more animals are currently underway, as flooding persists. With ongoing rescue operations, the number of dogs separated from their owners or removed from high-risk areas is anticipated to rise.

Officials said at least 37 people have been killed with another 74 still missing in the record-breaking floods which have devastated cities and forced thousands to leave their homes..
