The military in Brazil has rescued residents stranded on the roofs of their submerged homes amid the country's worst floods in 80 years.

Footage shows stricken locals receiving help in the State of Rio Grande do Sul on May 3.

The Brazilian Navy, Federal Highway Police (PRF), and Parana Military Police (PMPR) have dispatched their helicopters to aid the state, which has been grappling with floods following heavy rain since April 28.

Officials said at least 37 people have been killed with another 74 still missing in the record-breaking floods which have devastated cities and forced thousands to leave their homes..
