These images show how Ukrainian forces have recaptured the city of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, burning Russian flags and taking down Russian propaganda.

The first footage shows Ukrainian military vehicles heading towards the city, with destroyed Russian vehicles strewn along a road. Two Ukrainian soldiers can then be seen burning a Russian flag while others rip down Russian propaganda posters.

A Ukrainian soldier on a ladder turns to people on the street, lifts his arms into the air and shouts 'Slava Ukraini!' which means 'Glory to Ukraine!' as the footage ends.

The second footage shows Ukrainian troops entering the city and going through discarded Russian military equipment. The soldiers can also be seen burning a Russian flag, with one shouting 'Slava Ukraini!' as the footage ends.

The images were obtained from the State Border Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of internal affairs of Ukraine on Tuesday, September 13.

The Ukrainian Border Service said: 'Vovchansk is home. The border guards removed the leftovers. Glory to Ukraine!'

And the Ministry of Internal Affairs said: 'The border guards are restoring order in liberated Vovchansk.'

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 in what the Kremlin is still calling a 'special military operation.'

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between February 24 and September 12, Russia had lost about 53,300 personnel, 2,175 tanks, 4,662 armoured combat vehicles, 1,279 artillery units, 311 multiple launch rocket systems, 165 air defence systems, 244 warplanes, 213 helicopters, 904 drones, 233 cruise missiles, 15 warships, 3,469 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 117 units of special equipment.

Russia has claimed its casualties have been much lower but provides infrequent updates on its latest figures.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that his country's troops have recaptured 6,000 square kilometres (2,400 square miles) from the Russian invaders in the south and the east of the country.

Ukrainian forces have reportedly pushed the Russians back to the border in the Kharkiv Oblast region and have recaptured the city of Izium.

Russian military leaders have reportedly stopped sending new troops into Ukraine following the country's counteroffensive.

Russian troops have also reportedly left behind vast amounts of ammunition and other equipment in the Kharkiv Oblast region.

The Ukrainian authorities have said that they are capturing so many Russian POWs that they are quickly running out of places to put them.

A spokesperson for Ukrainian military intelligence, Andrey Yusov, said that a 'significant' number of these captured Russian troops include officers.

Municipal deputies from 18 of Moscow's and Saint Petersburg's districts have publicly called for Vladimir Putin to resign.

Their signed public statement, published by Ksenia Torstrem, the municipal deputy of the Semenovsky district in St Petersburg, read in part: 'We, the municipal deputies of Russia, believe that the actions of President Vladimir Putin harm the future of Russia and its citizens.'

It also said: 'Deputies are not yet forbidden to have an opinion. And it is also not forbidden to speak for the president's resignation. He is not a monarch, but a hired worker, receives a salary from our taxes.'
