A Yellow-billed Spoonbill using its strange bill to catch dinner.
Australian Yellow-billed Spoonbills use their peculiar bills to catch their food comprising mainly aquatic insects, small fish, crustaceans and some plant matter, sweeping their bills from side to side. This Spoonbill was wading and feeding in the shallows of Herdsman Lake west of Perth in Western Australia on a beautiful, calm afternoon.
