Dozens of passengers escaped from a bus after its engine caught on fire in Thailand.

Forty-six commuters fled from the Bangkok-bound vehicle driving along the Mittraphap Highway in Nakhon Ratchasima province as the flames ripped through its engine compartment early morning on September 22.

Sida district police reported all passengers and bus crew were unharmed.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and found the vehicle burning on the road shoulder.

The fire had quickly spread, tearing through the rear end of the bus. It was extinguished after about 20 minutes.

The bus driver said they left for Bangkok from the Khon Kaen terminal at 10:45 pm local time on September 21 when the fire erupted. He hurriedly parked it on the roadside and called for help while the passengers escaped.

Police said an investigation is currently underway to find the cause of the fire.
