Terrified student finds huge monitor lizard looking for mice in dorm's ceiling
A terrified student fled from a large monitor lizard rummaging through his dorm's ceiling in Thailand.
Amnat Champeethong, 22, was cooking dinner when he saw a scaly reptile he thought was a snake poking out of the old structure's gaps in Kamphaeng Phet province on September 22.
He rushed outside the room and called the animal rescuers for help who arrived hoping to catch a serpent but found a 3ft-long lizard instead.
Footage shows the volunteers breaking down part of the ceiling where the hungry creature emerged. It was secured by the team and taken out of the apartment.
Fifth-year college intern Amnat said: ‘I heard something from the kitchen. I looked up, there was a hole. It was small but enough to peek through. I saw something move. I thought it was a snake but then I saw it was a tail.'
The student asked the administrators of the apartment if they could remove portions of the ceiling and when they agreed, the rescuers began chipping off some of the board to reveal the creatures.
After 30 minutes, they were able to secure the lizard on its neck and placed inside a sack. The rescuers said that the lizard might have been attracted to catch mice and pigeons on the building's ceiling because it was hungry.
The lizard was released in a nearby canal while the student thanked the team for their help.
