Gas station owner salvages fuel pumps as floods swamp forecourt in Thailand
A gas station owner had to salvage his fuel pumps after high floods swamped the refilling area's forecourt in Thailand.
Businessman Somsak Inurai dismantled the nozzles and hoses after the water level rose in Ang Thong province on October 8.
The floods had reached a depth of up to 3.5 feet, drenching shops and homes in the area. Footage shows Somsak ad her family loading the fuel pumps onto a pickup truck while waiting for the deluge to recede.
She said: 'I put a barrier around the station to prevent the flood from seeping in. But the barrier only delayed the flood for three days.
'It broke at night, and water came in from behind the station. I was forced to cut electricity and move the gas nozzles elsewhere. I also had to close the oil pipes.
'I have nothing left. The flood cost me a million baht in damage. It has never flooded in my gas station before.'
Meteorologists have blamed climate change for the sustained heavy rain, which has been hitting the Thai capital and provinces around the country causing severe floods for several weeks.
Thailand's Center for Climate Change and Disaster claimed the coming months could see heavier, longer rainfalls, due to 'climate change'.
Local media reported that the country has this year seen 'an unusually sustained and persistent rainy season'.
