A railway line partially collapsed as heavy rain battered northeast Thailand on Tuesday.

Flash floods had eroded the foundation of the tracks connecting the Khao Suan Kwang and Non Sa-at stations in Udon Thani province following a storm on June 6 afternoon.

Trips to Nong Khai province in the northeast were delayed due to the collapse. Passengers who cancelled their trips were offered a full refund.

Ekarat Sriarayanphong, the director of public relations at the State Railway of Thailand, said personnel had been dispatched to conduct repairs.

He said: 'We expect the repairs to be completed by June 7 morning. Local civil engineering offices and station masters have been advised to keep monitoring the situation and implement security measures as necessary. The State Railway of Thailand apologises for the inconvenience.'

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia have entered their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
