This is the heartwarming moment trapped puppies were rescued from the bottom of a well in Thailand.

The trio of hapless baby dogs were weakened and covered in dust when they were found by a passer-by lying in the narrow shaft in Chonburi province's Sattahip district on October 9.

The concerned villager heard their mewling cries and managed to hoist one of the three up to safety, but had to call volunteers to save the remaining two.

Rescue workers arrived at the empty lot and lowered a noose down the three-metre hole hoping the dogs would put their paws inside the loop.

Failing that, they then lowered a basket to use as a makeshift lift, but the puppies were too exhausted to react.

Finally, they used a long pole with a snare at the end and pulled the infant animals by their necks to safety.

The rescue mission took nearly an hour, with the pup's mum watching nearby.

Good Samaritan Athon Thoithat said: 'I came running around here and heard the sound of dogs barking so I went around until I found these poor puppies stuck in the well. However, I was only able to save one.

'I am extremely grateful to the rescue team because without them, all three pups would have died of suffocation.'
