A trio of hapless stray dogs were rescued after getting stuck in a pit for three days.

The canines were found soaking in muddy water by a farmer at a rubber plantation in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, souythern Thailand, on October 29.

Rains had begun to fill up the pit, but the pooches managed to keep their heads above the muck.

Passing worker Apichat said he called the emergency services when he realised the pooches were stuck.

He said: 'I was on my way to harvest some rubber when I heard the poor dogs whining. Their cries led me to their location.'

Volunteers carried the dogs up to safety using ropes. As the pit was not too deep, the rescue was completed without issue.
